Larry J. Lloyd is the founder and general overseer of Spirit of Liberty Christian
Fellowship and Global Ministries in Lafayette, Louisiana. He is also the founder of the
Prophetic School For Life and Ministry in Lafayette, LA, Los Angeles, CA, and South
Africa. Dr. Lloyd is currently a professor at Southern University teaching Race Relations.
Dr. Lloyd has taught Philosophy, Logic, and Politics and Religion.
Lloyd was ordained in 1973 by the Western Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ in
Shreveport, Louisiana. Reverend Lloyd was consecrated as Bishop and Prelate of Spirit
of Liberty in 2008. With forty-four years of preaching, teaching, and administrative
responsibilities, Lloyd is considered to be a veteran facilitator with excellent oral
communication skills.
Dr. Lloyd has demonstrated proficiency as a teacher, lecturer, and conference speaker.
He has also excelled in mentoring, curriculum development, strategic planning, and
leadership development.
Lloyd’s educational background includes the completion of a Ph.D. in Intercultural
Studies in the summer of 2004 from Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Intercultural
Studies. Lloyd holds two Masters Degrees in Theology and Intercultural Studies from
Fuller’s School of Theology and School of Intercultural Studies in 1992 and 1993,
respectively. Lloyd completed his Bachelor's Degree in Bible and Pastoral Studies from
North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1977.
Professionally, Lloyd has served as founder and General Overseer of the Spirit of Liberty
Christian Fellowship and Global Ministries of Lafayette, Louisiana since 1979. Lloyd has
taught at Oral Roberts University Undergraduate School of Theology between 1982 and
1983, while pursuing his Masters Degree. Lloyd served as Pastor of Congregational Care
at Greater Bethany Congregational Church of Los Angeles from 1997-1999. In 1999, Dr.
Lloyd received national attention from Los Angeles Times, and the Christian Science
Monitor for his contributions in educating urban leaders in Compton and Watts. Lloyd
has taught as an adjunct professor at Fuller Seminary School of Theology since 2000.
Lloyd taught as a visiting professor at Loyola Marymount University from 2001-2002.
Lloyd served as Director of the African-American Studies Program at Azusa Pacific
University from 1996-2001. Reverend Lloyd is the founder of Boys With A Bible, a
mentoring program for African American boys and urban youth. Lloyd currently host
The Wonderful Word of God Radio Broadcast, and Spiritual Soul Food daily devotionals,
which includes preaching and teaching programs reaching a major segment of
Southwest Louisiana, and internationally via the worldwide web. Reverend Lloyd has
made appearances on TBN and many local television stations in Lafayette, Louisiana and
Los Angeles, California.
Lloyd’s professional honors and memberships include the American Association of
Christian Counselors, recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Award, City Council,
Lafayette, LA, Key to the city of Lafayette, Louisiana, Lexington Who’s Who Registry of
Executives and Professionals, and Who’s Who Among Students in Universities and
Colleges, North Central University, Minneapolis, MN.
Lloyd’s dissertation title is “Neighborliness and Reconciliation among
African-Americans, U.S. Hispanics/Latinos, and Korean-Americans in Los Angeles.” Dr.
Charles H. Kraft was Lloyd’s mentor during his doctoral studies.
Lloyd has traveled extensively, he leads biblical tours to Israel, Egypt, Rome, Turkey,
Greece and West Africa which includes Nigeria and Ghana. Recently, Dr. Lloyd and Spirit
of Liberty Christian Fellowship and Global Ministries adopted schools in South Africa
and Nigeria. Reverend Lloyd has also assisted in Church planting in Cape Town, South
Africa.
Dr. Lloyd continues to minister full-time celebrating over four decades of teaching,
preaching, educating, and mentoring emerging leaders worldwide.
